Egypt · Safety vs Experience

Egypt

Egypt was one of the countries I worried about most before travelling. Online it can look intense, unsafe and stressful, but my actual experience in tourist areas felt much calmer than I expected.

Myth

“Egypt is too dangerous for a normal holiday.”

This was one of the biggest worries before going. From the outside, Egypt can be made to sound like a place where you need to be on edge constantly.

Reality

Tourist areas felt managed and calmer.

My experience was that tourist areas were well organised and I felt much more relaxed once I was actually there. It still needed common sense, but it was not the constant danger I expected.

Memory

The trip changed my view completely.

Egypt captured my heart more than I expected. The attractions, atmosphere and treatment of tourists made the trip feel memorable rather than frightening.

Before going

What I would tell someone before booking.

Egypt is not a place I would tell people to avoid. I would tell them to prepare properly, stay aware, and not let online fear ruin the whole idea of going.

  • Do not drink tap water. Stick to bottled water and be careful with ice.
  • Use trusted transport and make sure plans are clear before getting in.
  • Book excursions through providers you trust, especially for longer trips.
  • Keep your hotel details, small cash and phone battery sorted before leaving the hotel.

My take in one line

Egypt is a perfect example of why Unfiltered Travel exists: the fear before going did not match the full reality once I was there.

Expectation → Reality → Advice
01

Expectation

Before going, I expected the trip to feel risky, overwhelming and difficult to manage because of what I had read online.

02

Reality

Once there, the experience felt calmer. The main issue was preparation, especially water, transport and choosing reliable excursions.

03

Advice

I would tell someone to stay aware, but not to write Egypt off because of fear-based content or dramatic travel stories.
